It’s that time of year again folks! Yes, it’s MMS Photo Contest time 😃 📸
Our photo contest is an annual event where we enjoy and learn from mushroom photography by our members. It’s never too early to start taking photos and planning each year’s photo submissions. If you have not started on this yet, time to get busy!
All photo submittals are due by midnight on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Contest Categories and How to Enter
Contest entries will no longer be submitted via email, but instead we will have an online contest site on PollUnit.com where you can upload your photo entries. Members will be sent a link and password via email to the contest site on Wednesday, October 1st, and will be able to make their submissions up until the October 31st deadline.
ATTENTION MEMBERS! If you need the link and password to make your submissions, you can contact the photo director at photos@minnesotamushrooms.org, or look for the event listing at the bottom of your last club email in the MMS Upcoming Events block.
MMS members may submit entries in any or all of the categories of “Pictorial, “Scientific” and “Activity/Humor/Other”. 1st through 4th Place awards will be given in each of these three categories. In addition, the Photo Contest Director awards a single “Director’s Award” and the prestigious “Blewit Award” is awarded to the entry with the most votes across all categories. Also new this year, members under age 18 will be eligible for a Youth Award.
New Hybrid Approach to Selecting Winners
Except for the Scientific category, we will be returning to our pre-COVID practice of MMS member voting! After the submissions period is over, starting on December 5th, members will be able to view photo entries and vote online. Scientific entries will still be judged by a select panel of members. We will also have our annual presentation of all photos entered in the contest at our Monday, December 8th Zoom meeting. Members will still be able to do their voting for a week after this meeting through Monday, December 15th.
