A low-angle close-up of two mushrooms, one large and one small, growing side-by-side on a fallen log. The larger mushroom has a thick, shaggy-textured stem and a broad, off-white cap with a cracked, net-like pattern. The small mushroom is a miniature version, with a similar textured stem and a darker, brownish cap. The background is a blurry mix of green leaves and foliage.

Meetings & Activities

The MMS has meetings and activities throughout the year to help you learn about mushrooms and the creative ways you can use them.

MMS Meetings:

Learning About Mycology Together

All regular MMS meetings are open to the public. Feel free to attend to see what we are about and get to know us.

When

The MMS meets on the second Monday of each month.
All regular meetings are held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Occasionally, we have an additional special meeting, which would be announced in our newsletter and on our events calendar.

Where

Most MMS meetings are held virtually using Zoom unless otherwise announced in our Events. You do not need a Zoom account, but you will need the Zoom app installed on your desktop or mobile device. You can learn how to download the Zoom app in advance here. Alternatively, you can download and install the Zoom app when prompted the first time you click on a meeting link.

Meetings & Activities are a critical part of our Educational Mission

Meetings typically include featured speakers, identification sessions or other activities, in addition to regular club announcements. Topics include presentations from:

  • Academic research and findings by our graduate scholarship winners.
  • Scientific organizations such as NAMA and representatives aligned with the Fungal Diversity Survey (FunDiS – formerly the North American Mycoflora Project).
  • Annual meeting on the basics of morel hunting each spring.
  • Special visits from artists, photographers, culinary experts, and book authors.
  • Owners of mushroom businesses and cultivators.
  • Identification techniques by committee members.
  • Annual photo contest viewing and voting.
