MMS Annual Meeting, Potluck and Member Craft Fair

PLEASE NOTE THE MEETING DATE CHANGE AND EARLIER START TIME!
Instead of meeting on our usual 2nd Monday of the month, we’ll meet on the 3rd Monday for this meeting only.

This meeting will be in person at the Diamond Head Education Center in Burnsville, in the “Savage” Room. The ever popular MMS potluck is back! Come meet other MMS members and share your mushroom hunting stories while enjoying potluck fare. Cookies, Chaga tea and cider will be provided by MMS, but bring your favorite mushroom or non-mushroom dish to share if you like. See the list and guidelines below for approved wild mushroom species to be included in your dish or use cultivated mushrooms.

Are you a mushroom enthusiast AND a crafter or artist? We’d love to see your work and everyone is looking for gifts at this time of year. Please email Kathy Yerich: vicepresident@minnesotamushrooms.org, if you’d like a small table to sell your items. MMS will have books, stickers, patches and shirts for sale. Attendees will receive a ticket for the chance to win a door prize!

In preparing a dish for the potluck, please remember to use only one of the species of wild mushrooms listed below and use only one species per dish. Out of an abundance of caution and for safety concerns, dishes with any other mushrooms will not be allowed. Specifically, Honey Caps, Armilleria mellea complex, will NOT be allowed. However, commercially purchased mushrooms, cultivated mushrooms and non-mushroom dishes are welcome! Additionally, all dishes will require a recipe, and ingredients list due to food allergy issues…no exceptions, please!

Acceptable wild mushrooms (one per dish):

  1. Large Puffball – Calvatia gigantea
  2. Sulfur Shelf – Laetiporus sulphureus or cinncinatus
  3. Hen of the Woods – Grifola frondosa
  4. Morel – Morchella species
  5. Black Trumpet – Craterellus cornucopioides
  6. Lobster – Hypomyces lactifluorum

The Diamondhead Education Center is on Burnsville Parkway just east of 35W. There is plenty of free parking and the Savage Room is on the Upper Level. Door 2 is closest and your best option, but Door 1 will work as well.
