Our July meeting will be a members-only event at William O’Brien State Park. This event will provide information on identification of summer fungi, what you will face during summer forays in Minnesota and a chance to meet socially with other members of the MMS and some of our board. MMS will also provide picnic fare: hot dogs (meat and vegetarian option) chips and beverages. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park. A state park permit (yearly or daily) is required to attend this meeting. This info portion will start at about 7:00 PM.

Participants are also welcome to bring a few personal specimens they have found for ID assistance but anything brought must not be left at the park. Staff will be on-hand to provide assistance starting about 5:00 PM. The event will also feature several guided walks through parts of the park which will begin about 6:00 PM, however, due to the nature of our agreements with the DNR over park use this particular event must be limited to members only and any fungi we seek to gather during any informal walks during the event must be commonly considered to be edible. The leaders who will be guiding the walks will make every effort to teach and instruct along the way about any fungi we see and participants will be encouraged to take photos, post on iNaturalist and share information with each other. Once we return to the picnic area the meeting will begin (about 7:00 PM) with the general information about summer forays outlined above and we will have time to instruct folks on how to use identification aids.

Directions: The park is located 12 miles north of Stillwater, just north of the town of Marine on St. Croix. The park entrance is located right on State Highway 95. After turning onto the park road, the ranger station is immediately on your right. Meet at the picnic shelter overlooking Lake Alice. Google directions to the parking lot by the shelter.
