Tales from the Mushroom Trail

Our September 25th meeting will be an in-person presentation held at Borlaug Hall AND shared remotely via Zoom.

Langdon Cook with a basket of chanterellesJoin author Langdon Cook for a “patch-to-plate” tour of his award-winning book, The Mushroom Hunters, which The Wall Street Journal calls “a rollicking narrative…delivering vivid and cinematic scenes on every page.” Travel to some of the most famous mushroom patches on the continent in search of the most sought-after fungi for the table, meeting the pickers, buyers, and chefs who make this frontier-style marketplace the largest all-cash business in North America. Q&A and book signing to follow.

Langdon Cook is a writer, instructor, and lecturer on wild foods and the outdoors. His books include Upstream: Searching for Wild Salmon, from River to Table, a finalist for the Washington State Book Award, The Mushroom Hunters: On the Trail of an Underground America, winner of the 2014 Pacific Northwest Book Award, and Fat of the Land: Adventures of a 21st Century Forager, which The Seattle Times called “lyrical, practical and quixotic.” Cook’s work has been nominated for two James Beard Awards (2016 and 2019), a Society for Environmental Journalists award, and a Pushcart Prize. He lives in Seattle.
