Our July meeting will be a members-only event at William O’Brien State Park. This event will provide information on identification of summer fungi, what you will face during summer forays in Minnesota, and a chance to meet socially with other members of the MMS and some of our board. This meeting portion of the event will start at about 7:00 PM. Members are welcome to bring their own food to consume during the event, and their own water or other beverage. Because of continued health concerns, the MMS will not be providing food or drinks.

Staff will be on hand to provide ID assistance starting about 5:00 PM. Participants are welcome to bring a few personal specimens they have found for identification, but anything brought must not be left at the park. The event will also feature several guided walks through parts of the park which will begin about 6:00 PM.  Due to the nature of our agreements with the DNR over park use, this particular event must be limited to members only, and any fungi gathered during our informal walks must be commonly considered as edible. The leaders who will guide the walks will make every effort to teach and instruct along the way about any fungi we see, and participants will be encouraged to take photos, post on iNaturalist and share information with each other. Once we return to the picnic area, the meeting will begin (about 7:00 PM) with the general information about summer forays outlined above and instruction on how to use tools that will aid identification.

Directions: The park is located 12 miles north of Stillwater, just north of the town of Marine on St. Croix. The park entrance is located right on State Highway 95. After turning onto the park road, the ranger station is immediately on your right. Meet at the picnic shelter overlooking Lake Alice. Google directions to the parking lot by the shelter.
