UPDATE 6/5: THIS CLASS IS VERY CLOSE TO FULL SO PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL TO CHECK AVAILABILITY: John Lamprecht, ph. 952-890-8744 email jml313@aol.com

This class will cover:
-Hen of the Woods, Sheepshead or Maitake
-Hericium species (many common names)
-Lobster Fungus
-Hedgehog
-Giant Puffball

The cost for non-MMS members is $80.00 and $70 for current MMS members. Previous MMS certification class attendees will get a $10 discount.

You’ll learn the basics of mushroom identification, and how to collect, store and transport your finds. Important information about edibility concerns and dangerous/inedible mushrooms will also be shared.   This certification is required to sell wild mushrooms to food establishments in Minnesota.

Please note: The MMS conducts two mushroom certification classes annually for edible mushroom foraging.  The other class held in early spring covers Morels, Chanterelles, Black Trumpet, and Sulphur Shelf.  Membership and active participation in our club’s meetings and forays will provide the level of knowledge needed for most to safely identify common edible mushrooms, and know when to be cautious.  Good reasons to take this class:

  1. You own or control land which you would like to legally sell gathered wild mushrooms from, or…
  2. You desire in-depth knowledge for your own use and feel you need a more concentrated learning experience than you would get from regular membership participation.
