Fall Mushroom Identification

Our September 8th meeting will be an in-person mushroom identification meeting held at Borlaug Hall, AND shared remotely via Zoom.

Attending in-person is highly recommended to get the most out of this event.

At our identification meetings, we talk about and examine what mushrooms members have been finding lately on their own and at our forays. Please bring any mushrooms you have found to the meeting if you’d like help identifying them. Members of the Foray and Education committees will present a mushroom of their choosing; discuss why they chose it, its characteristics, and how one goes about identifying it and any look-alikes.

Also at this meeting, we’ll learn about our Funga Scientific Committee and their work collecting, identifying and submitting fungal collections for the Bell Museum’s collection. This year they have several projects in progress, including DNA sequencing and the committee’s “Fungi Wanted” list. Some of the species from the list are being prepared into pamphlets that we hope to have available at MMS Forays. 

Presentations are recorded and posted a few days later on the MMS YouTube channel.

This meeting is free and open to the public. Members receive Zoom links on meeting announcements and reminders. Also, anyone can click on the button below and provide their contact info to be sent the Zoom link for this meeting.
