Mushroom Photography and the MMS Photo Contest with Howard Goltz
Howard, our photo contest coordinator will present the 2021 MMS Photo Contest Rules, followed by tips on photographing mushrooms with exemplary examples of winners from past years’ contests. Other photographers will be encouraged to add their insights.
Howard grew up in North Mankato on the Minnesota River enjoying woodlands, wetlands, meadows and seasonal Morel ‘forays’ with his family. Following his graduation from the U of MN and a 45-year career as a ‘healthcare’ architect, his (literal) focus returned to nature, joining the Minnesota Mycological Society in 2011 and serving as Board Secretary 2015-2018 and now as Photo Contest Coordinator. He is also a member of the North American Mycological Association, where he serves as Board Secretary.
He and his wife Janet paint mushrooms as members of the Great River Chapter of Botanical Art and the American Society of Botanical Art. Their home abuts a 2,565 acre park reserve in Bloomington MN where many of his 10,000+ mushroom photos were taken.
