Getting To Know Minnesota Mushrooms with Ron Spinosa

Ron Spinosa

Ron Spinosa holds oyster mushrooms growing from toilet paper, with some of his cultivated mushrooms including shitake mushrooms (left) on logs.

Come and celebrate the wonderful world of mushrooms. You will be amazed at the incredible variety of colors, sizes and shapes that abound in the Kingdom of Fungi. This presentation will emphasize the absolutely essential role of fungi for life on earth. The focus will then be on getting to know mushrooms. Included will be the basics of mushroom identification and a survey of some common edible and poisonous mushrooms of Minnesota. A previously recorded presentation will be used, followed by live questions afterwards.

Ron Spinosa is a past president of the Minnesota Mycological Society and current chair of the MMS Identification Committee. He has given many presentations and workshops on mushrooms at nature centers, museums, schools, and garden clubs. Ron was a recipient of The Harry and Elsie Knighton Service Award by the North American Mycological Association in 2011.
